How does Matilda's Room work?
We do limited drops of secondhand books at 8 pm every Monday.
Each drop will have around 25-30 books. We don't expect the books to stay around long - if you see something you like, add it to your cart while you can!
Unfortunately items in your cart are not secure. To secure your books, you must be the first person to proceed to the checkout and pay for your books.
If you miss out on the books you want, let me know and I will check for others in stock (but not listed on the website).
How much are Matilda’s books?
We like to keep things affordable! So our books range from $6 to $15+ (plus postage). We are about spreading the joy of good books, not about charging through the roof!
How much is postage?
We review our postage costs regularly and will do our best to find a cost-effective and reliable service. Our current delivery fees are:
One to four books - $8.50
Five books plus - $10.50
We don’t charge extra if you live rurally.
Currently we only post to New Zealand addresses.
How do you choose your books?
We are not like other second hand book stores. We do not sell just any book. All of our books have either been read and enjoyed by Matilda or have a high rating on Good Reads.
Everyone does have different taste in books - follow along with our Facebook, our Instagram or our Substack to get a feel for the types of books you will find at Matilda's Room.
What condition are the books?
We are a second hand book store. We search high and low for great books in good condition. At the start of each listing, we describe the book's condition in as much detail as possible. Most of our books have been read at least once. After all, a good book is made to be shared!
What if I am looking for a particular book?
We like to keep things fresh, so our books are always changing. If you are looking for something in particular, please email us at hello@matildasroom.nz and we will let you know if we have it available or we can keep an eye out for you.
How does the donation to charity work?
Each month, Matilda will choose one of her favourite charities and for every book purchased, we will donate $1 to that charity. Read good books, and feel good while doing it!
Are your photos of the actual book?
Yes! In the odd case where we have more than one copy of a particular book, the photo may not be the exact book, but we do our best to photograph the actual book – mainly if there are marks or creases that we want you to be aware of before purchasing.
Do you offer returns?
Unfortunately we do not offer returns, so please choose carefully. We go out
of our way to give you a clear idea of the condition of each book so you know
exactly what you are buying. If there is a problem, please contact us at hello@matildasroom.nz.
In the unlikely event of a return, the cost of shipping will be deducted
from any refund.
Do you offer pick ups?
Yes we do! We are trialling a pick up option. Books are able to be collected in Fairfield, Hamilton.
Select “pick up” at checkout, and you will not be charged for postage.
I will then contact you to arrange a date and time for you to collect your books. Books must be picked up within one week of purchasing.
